This Week's Quote:

"Cancer came back into my life twice in order for me to understand something, and I guess I still wasn't getting it. And my husband wasn't getting it, either."

1. Help Me Out Here,Guys (and Gals)?

You know I recently published and promoted an eBook, the start of an anti-aging coaching program. I called it "Anti-Aging Outside the Box" because, to me, the most valuable aspect of this report seemed to be the stuff other people were NOT saying; the advice outside the box. I never write same old same old, as you know.

Anyway, long story short, I don't think the title worked.

Despite the fact that I surveyed you all, to see what information you most wanted, this sold only moderately. I've decided to change the title and want you to tell me which you think is best (or both crap!)

1. "How To Get Healthy For Your Next 100 Years" (science says you can live another 100 years, new statistics say you will if you know what to do)

2. "Anti-Aging Ninja" (Get your black belt in longevity and health)

The first is serious but arresting; OK, the second is a bit jokey. But so what? Nobody said I have to be poe-faced about it! What matters is the content.

The second one I see with a ninja leaping into view with a sword. And maybe each chapter heading with a secretive figure looking out from a mask? Whatcha think friends?

By the way, the liver eBook you all asked for is nearly done up. It's longer than I thought (about 60 pages). I can't decide whether to give it away free (which might devalue it) or charge something nominal, like $10 (just to be sure it's read and appreciated).

2. The Threat To World Peace And The End Of The USA

Any religion which endorses violence is incapable of delivering spiritual enlightenment; how obvious does that have to be?

I don't usually do political stuff. I am especially wary about treading on people's toes, from a religious point of view.

Nevertheless, I am willing to share reasoned argument from intelligent people, providing hate isn't the motive (anger is OK, not hate). The thing is: I think we can all see that if religious fanatics are not stopped then, sooner or later, we will all be swept aside on a tide of violence and made to do what they want.

I suggest you watch this impassioned but reasoned speech by Brit called Pat Condell, for a website called "Jihad Watch". I've never visited the website before. One of my doctor friends sent me the link.

Pat Condell isn’t on America’s side, let me warn you! You’ll hear America described as a soft country, a decadent country, crippled by political correctness, confused and guilt ridden, with no backbone and no pride.

It seems to me Pat has one important point, which is that while America continues to be so smug and flaunts its arrogance as false “pride”, that it is in danger of being toppled. America needs to wake up to the dire threat to its very existence.

What got Pat angry? The program to put a 16-story Islamic mosque right alongside ground zero in New York. Not a coincidence, he says. You decide.

Do remember, when you listen, that “Moslems” are not “Islam” any more than the Mafia is “Christianity”. But if you read my former blog on this, you'll realize that the tiny violent minority is the problem and if "good" Moslems everywhere don't stop them, becuase of inaction, it will go the way of the Nazis and the Bolsheviks. A few men with guns can take over a whole country.

So, you've been warned! Here's your link: Jihad Watch

And the blog post: Islam and the threat to world peace

3. Vitamin E Triumphs Again

Really, the torrent of positives is just boring!

There are really two parts to this latest story: this study strikes at the continuing oft-quoted nonsense that anti-oxidants, especially vitamins C, E and betacarotines, are bad for you and also points out that nutrients have a major impact on Alzheimer’s disease (something the drug-run Alzheimer’s Association consistently denies, while pushing its useless drug recommendations).

Alpha-tocopherol, one of the more common forms of Vitamin E, has been widely studied for potential protective effects against the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease. Whenever people equate alpha-tocopherol with “vitamin E”, you can know they are getting it wrong. Really WRONG. Alpha-tocopherol is a synthetic manufactured substance. It contains none of the many variants found in the natural vitamin E. Vitamin E is really a family of eight substances, with different pre-fixes (gamma-tocopherol etc.)

And when you read the vitamin E has “no benefit” on heart disease, or that it may even be dangerous, know that it’s not vitamin E, just the synthetic stuff.

However, not everyone is a phoney or a fool. Dr. Francesca Mangialasche, from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm (Sweden), and colleagues knew what they were doing. They studied a group of 232 men and women, ages 80 years and older, who were dementia-free at the study’s start. The researchers follows the subjects for 6 years, tracking the onset of Alzheimer’s Disease and measuring blood levels of all eight natural vitamin E components.

What they found was pretty telling: those patients who had higher blood levels of all the vitamin E family forms were at a markedly reduced risk of developing Alzheimer’s Disease, as compared to subjects with lower levels. In fact a 45-54% lower risk, depending on the vitamin E component.

The researchers conclude that: “The neuroprotective effect of vitamin E seems to be related to the combination of different forms, rather than to alpha-tocopherol alone.”

4. Conventional Medicine Goes One Step Smarter

Orthodox medicine has one strength, if used wisely: money! They can test and develop things us poor guys in the holistic arena cannot afford to do.

Here's a very good idea I'd like to see developed, and see where it leads. Like a smart bomb, medication delivered only when it’s needed and where it’s needed is a good idea.

Here’s one variant, in development: the “on-demand antibiotic” dressing. It only releases the medication when it detects pathogenic bacteria. That’s good.

But it knows to leave alone friendly bacteria. That’s BRILLIANT. As I revealed in my book “How To Sutvive In A World Without Antibiotics” we need hosts of friendly bacteria. Normally, 10% of our dry body weight is bacteria, did you know! Killing them off, willy nilly, along with pathogens is bad news and has led to health disasters over the decades (MRSA and resistant strains, Candida etc.) Our frinedly bacteria actually maintain us in good health.

But now a revolutionary medical dressing that can detect and treat infection in wounds is being developed by an international team of scientists.

When the dressing detects infection-related bacteria, because of the toxins they produce, the dressing will release antibiotics from tiny embedded capsules. Furthermore, the dressing will also change color in order to alert health-care providers that there is infection in the wound.

Clever stuff.

Much less likely to be plagued by resistance, since you are only treating on an as-and-when basis.
Of course it’s far better to have a vast knowledge of all the many alternatives to antibiotics. In fact that’s knowledge which could and probably will save your life some day.

5. Amazing Simple Home Remedies

Here's a humorous add-on from my friend Hunter Walker in Edinburgh UK. I get lots of these but since this is about home remedies, I couldn't resist!

These really work!

1. To avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables, get someone else to hold the vegetables while you chop.

2. To avoid arguments with the females about lifting the toilet seat - use the sink.

3. For high blood pressure sufferers, simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure on your veins. [remember to use a timer.]

4. A mouse trap placed on top of your alarm clock will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.

5. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives - you'll be afraid to cough.

6. You only need two tools in life - WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

7. If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

6. What's In A Word?

Vicarious

Some people find this one tricky. It means experience by proxy, or through another person doing it (watching pron would be vicarious sex).

Other definitions:

1. obtained or undergone at second hand through sympathetic participation in another's experiences

2. suffered, undergone, or done as the substitute for another vicarious punishment

3. delegated vicarious authority

4. taking the place of another

5. (Medicine / Pathology) noting or pertaining to a situation in which one organ performs part of the functions normally performed by another.

[from Latin vicārius substituted, from vicis turning or interchange; see also vicissitude, which I gave you in Serendipity50 ]

So, that's all for this week!

Be well; find the sacred in all you do, otherwise don't do it!
